Supergwarancja award for Krzysztof Penderecki
TVP Kultura has announced nominations for Gwarancje Kultury 2013 awards. A special award (Supergwarancja) will be granted this year to Krzysztof Penderecki for being “The master of Polish contemporary music. For his courage in going beyond musical conventions, for building new bridges with a music tradition spanning many centuries, and for his constant openness to experimentation and artistic exploration. For many years, his name has been a symbol of highest artistic quality, and his works have been a source of inspiration for successive generations of classical and non-classical musicians.”

Gorzkie Żale Festival – St Luke Passion
8 March, at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist in Warsaw, will see the premiere performance of Tomasz Cyz’s theatrical variation on the theme of Krzysztof Penderecki’s St Luke Passion.
This is one of the most interesting events of the Gorzkie Żale (Lenten Psalms) Festival. The stage adaptation was done Tomasz Cyz, and Marta Kozera created the stage design. Last year, Penderecki’s work was directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna and the performance took place in Kraków as part of the Misteria Paschalia Festival.
