Penderecki’s tulip
Krzysztof Penderecki, a new variety of tulip, is a gift that the composer received from the Poznań Philharmonic musicians. It took Jan Ligthart, a well-known Dutch flower breeder, as many as 16 years to create this variety. The tulip was officially presented in Gniezno. Krzysztof Penderecki’s tulip is dark red, verging into crimson. It is a gift for the Maestro’s 80th birthday.
“We wanted to preserve the Maestro for ever, there is no doubt he deserves it,” said one of the originators of the present Wojciech Nentwig, the Director of Poznań Philharmonic.
