Emanations Festival 2013

The summer edition of the Emanations Festival 2013, as part of which 80 concerts and opera performances are planned in celebration of Krzysztof Penderecki’s 80th birthday, began on 5 July.
Krzysztof Penderecki’s career began in 1959 when he won first three awards at the 2nd National Young Composers Competition, organized by the Polish Composers’ Union. Among the three winning compositions were “Emanations”, a work for 2 string orchestras by the composer who was 25 years old at that time. The name of the festival – EMANATIONS – makes a direct reference to the beginnings of the Maestro’s creative path. The festival repertoire includes solo recitals, chamber concerts, ensemble presentations, as well as symphony and opera music presented at the Kraków Opera and Philharmonic and at the Centre’s concert hall in Lusławice.

Lifetime Achievement Award for Krzysztof Penderecki

Every year through Lifetime Achievement Awards, the Istanbul Music Festival shows its gratitude and respect to masters who have contributed greatly to the development of classical music. The 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to Krzysztof Penderecki, who has composed several of his works in remembrance of catastrophes in the 20th century, including the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima or the terror attacks of 11 September 2001.
