Sacrum Non Profanum 2013: Music of Our Time. Krzysztof Penderecki on his 80th birthday

 
Krzysztof Penderecki was an honorary guest of the inaugural concert of the 9th International Music Festival Sacrum Non Profanum. The concert was held on 12 August at the Cathedral Basilica of St James the Apostle in Szczecin. The programme included Penderecki’s “A Sea of Dreams Did Breathe on Me… Songs of Reverie and Nostalgia” performed by Katarzyna Hołysz (soprano), Agnieszka Rehlis (mezzo-soprano), Leszek Skrla, the Jan Szyrocki Academic Choir, the Academia Orchestra, the Baltic Neopolis Orchestra, and the Szczecin Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Bohdan Boguszewski. Krzysztof Penderecki’s Concerto grosso for three cellos and orchestra was performed to close the festival on 17 August.

Wawel at Dusk

 
Starting from July, music is performed in the courtyards of the Wawel Royal Castle in Kraków on weekend summer evenings. The chamber concert programme includes composers from Bach to Lutosławski and Panufnik. The final concert on 31 August at the arcaded courtyard will recognize the achievements of Krzysztof Penderecki, who celebrates his anniversary in 2013.
