Outstanding Pole
Krzysztof Penderecki was named an “Outstanding Pole” as part of the “Teraz Polska” (Poland Now) competition. The award ceremony will be held on 3 June at the Teatr Wielki – Polish National Opera in Warsaw. Krzysztof Penderecki was appreciated for creating the European Centre for Music in Lusławice. “His Centre is the first institution of this kind to develop young musical talents in Poland and Europe,” write the organizers. The second laureate is Rafał Olbiński. Their professional success and social standing contribute to promoting Poland internationally.

23rd Mikołów Music Days – Concert on the occasion of Krzysztof Penderecki’s 80h birthday
On 29 May, a concert on the occasion of Krzysztof Penderecki’s 80h birthday will take place as part of the 23rd Mikołów Music Days at the Concert Hall of the Academy of Music in Katowice. Works by Penderecki, Bottesini, Prokofiev and Rossini will be performed by Sinfonia Varsovia under the direction of Jurek Dybał, with Jakub Jakowicz (violin) as a soloist.
