2nd Krzysztof Penderecki International Composers' Competition ARBORETUM, Radom 2014
The second edition of the 2nd Krzysztof Penderecki International Composers' Competition ARBORETUM has reached its halfway point. Stefano Bonilauri (Italy), Giovanni Dario Manzini (Italy), Fabio Nieder (Germany), Satoshi Ohmae (Japan), Rita Ueda (Canada) and Guo Yuan (China) are the composers who were qualified for the finals by the first round jury out of 118 scores sent.
The competition is open to composers of all ages and nationalities. It is held in two rounds. In the first round, the anonymously sent compositions were judged by a three-person jury consisting of Paul Patterson, Paweł Mykietyn and Maciej Żółtowski. The following six works were qualified for the second round, in which they will be publicly performed by Radom Chamber Orchestra (in alphabetical order by composer name):
1. Stefano Bonilauri (Italy) – Mare Interrotto per tredici archi
2. Giovanni Dario Manzini (Italy) – A Current Under Picked his Bones in Whispers
3. Fabio Nieder (Germany) – 3 unvollendete Portraits für Streichorchester
4. Satoshi Ohmae (Japan) – Symphonic canticle for string orchestra
5. Rita Ueda (Canada) – Ice melting… trickling gently...
6. Guo Yuan (China) – Three Times – for string orchestra
The jury debated at the seat of Radom Chamber Orchestra during the first days of September. The authors of the best compositions will be invited to Radom for the final concert, which will be held on 30 November 2014 (Sunday) at 6:00 pm at the Music School Complex concert hall. After performance of the works by Radom Chamber Orchestra, the laureates will be determined by the main juror, Prof. Krzysztof Penderecki. Three regulation prizes will be awarded:
First Award: 30000 zloty
Second Award: 10000 zloty
Third Award: 5000 zloty
The audience prize of 5 000 zloty, funded by the Polish Society of Authors and Composers (ZAiKS), will also be awarded this year.
