Krzysztof Penderecki Days in Armenia
“Krzysztof Penderecki Days in Armenia” were launched yesterday under the honorary patronage of President Serzh Sargsyan.
During the festival dedicated to the composer’s eightieth birthday, twenty of his works will be performed in Yerevan’s concert halls by Armenian orchestras and soloists from different parts of the world.
In the inaugural concert, Sergey Smbatyan conducted the excellent State Youth Orchestra of Armenia, which performed the Serenade for Strings, Symphony No 4 and cello arrangement of the Viola Concerto with soloist Bartosz Koziak.
On Thursday, 16 January, “Krzysztof Penderecki Days in Armenia” will be concluded with a performance by the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of two conductors: Eduard Topchjan and Krzysztof Penderecki. The concert will feature one of the composer’s most recent works, the Concerto Doppio for violin, viola and orchestra with the participation of outstanding Polish soloists: Agata Szymczewska and Robert Kabara.
