Penderecki musik:akademie westfalen

The second edition of the Penderecki musik:akademie westfalen takes place between 12 August and 1 September. The Penderecki musik:akademie westfalen is a summer orchestra academy forming part of the international classical music festival, which has been held since 2009. It features excellent teachers who give orchestra academies, master classes for individual instruments, composition workshops and courses on certain themes. An international orchestra of young musicians is rehearsing works by Krzysztof Penderecki and other composers and performing them as part of the festival concerts in different cities of Westphalia. The Polish composer’s music, which is an important reference point in the world’s musical heritage, is treated here as special material with which students from different countries (including Poland) come into contact under the composer’s tutelage.
This year conductor Maciej Tworek, who collaborates with the Ludwig van Beethoven Association, was invited to join.
The orchestra will also give one concert in Poland. On 1 September at the European Krzysztof Penderecki Centre for Music in Lusławice, the orchestra will perform works by Mendelssohn, Beethoven and Penderecki under the baton of the Centre’s patron.
