The Polityka’s Passports 2012 were awarded on 15 January in Warsaw. Elżbieta and Krzysztof Penderecki were granted the Creator of Culture awards for 2012.
Elżbieta Penderecka was awarded for creating important music events, in particular the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival; for bringing to light the manuscripts of great composers stored at the Jagiellonian Library; for providing patronage for the Sinfonietta Cracovia and Beethoven Academy Orchestra; and for her outstanding services to Polish musical life, of which she has been a creator and a guiding spirit.
The award for Krzysztof Penderecki was conferred for his outstanding and innovative compositions, which made Polish music internationally renowned; for his avant-garde works such as “Threnody”, “Anaklasis”, „Polymorphia”, “St Luke Passion” and “Utrenja”, but also for those in which he organized his musical universe: operas, symphonies, the “Polish Requiem”, chamber music; and for his long-standing educational work and fruitful cooperation with young artists, who rediscover his music and for whom he is a Maestro and partner inspiring for creative thinking.
