Krzysztof Penderecki in the Chapter of the Order of the White Eagle


On 25 February, Prof. Krzysztof Penderecki was appointed by the President of the Republic of Poland, Mr Bronisław Komorowski, to the Chapter of the Order of the White Eagle. The highest Order of the Republic of Poland RP was instituted in 1705, reactivated in 1921 and reinstated in 1992. It is awarded to both civilians and the military for their merits to the Republic of Poland, in times of war and peace. It is conferred to the highest ranking representatives of foreign countries (monarchs, presidents, prime ministers) and greatest Poles representing politics, culture and the arts. Other members appointed to the Chapter in addition to Prof. Krzysztof Penderecki include Władysław Bartoszewski, Aleksander Hall and Prof. Henryk Samsonowicz.
The Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland commented: “The nominations for Prof. Henryk Samsonowicz and Krzysztof Penderecki symbolize our openness to representatives of academic and cultural circles while emphasizing the great importance of these fields”.
