Krzysztof Penderecki music to resound in Kharkiv, Ukraine


From 3rd to 6th June, Krzysztof Penderecki will be the guest of honour of the Polish Consulate in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Together with the Kharkiv Philharmonic, the Consulate prepared a gala concert built of maestro Penderecki’s works. This is the first visit of the composer to Kharkiv. Besides the concert, in which he will conduct the performance of one of the pieces, he will meet the students of the Kharkiv Conservatory, and lay flowers before the monument to Polish officers – victims of the Katyń Crime in the Cemetery of Victims to Totalitarianism in Kharkiv–Piatykhatky.
Performers in the gala concert at the Taras Shevchenko Theatre to commemorate the jubilee of the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Kharkiv are the Kharkiv Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra conducted by maestros Yuri Yanko and Krzysztof Penderecki, and the Vyacheslav Palkin Academic Chamber Choir conducted by Andrei Syrotenko. The programme of the concert includes works by Krzysztof Pendereckieg: Agnus Dei for mixed choir a capella, Song of the Cherubim (Ize Cheruwimy) for mixed choir a capella, Chaconne for chamber orchestra and Symphony No. 2.
